For this shirt I transformed a very special super-soft, off-white linen tablecloth with an unusual embroidered floral design in various stages of completion.
I'm always intrigued by part-finished textile pieces, wondering what the story was behind them - and this tablecloth was a great example. I also love the way you can still see the transfers filling the gaps between the part completed flowers. Sometimes these transfers wash out completely, sometimes they fade over time and sometimes they are more permanent. I always launder fabric before use and in this case the transfers faded a little but are still visible for now - they may disappear over time.
This special tablecloth also had unusual rounded corners, which I've incorporated into the fronts of the shirt. I echoed the curved edges in the Peter Pan-style collar, on which I've positioned four dangling fuchsias.
Finished off with found shell buttons, as ever, this special one-off piece was lovingly made by me entirely from not-new, found, recycled materials.
