Striped side-button multi-pocket smock top

This was one of those garments that formed in my mind's eye as soon as I saw the fabric - a striped brushed cotton by Laura Ashley from 1978 - v different from the usual floral prints you'd expect from this brand. The selvedge was great and included the year and even washing instructions - I'll include a strip of it with the top.

I wanted to make something super comfy out of this soft, warm fabric and these deep kangaroo-style front pockets lent themselves to that. The asymmetical side buttons balanced with a mini pocket on the opposite sleeve and the smock-y shape are inspired by the era when the fabric was produced.

Finished off with found shell buttons, linen facings and self-fabric binding adding to the multi-directional stripes.
